Thomson Georgia, near Augusta, is the location of Belle Meade Country Club, one of 24 challenging public golf courses in Georgia's Historic South Region. This club is the site of the Regions Cup Masters and The Camelia Classic golf tournaments. The club hosts events for the Georgia State Golf Association and the Augusta Area Junior Golf Association. Belle Meade is a stop on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour and also provides club services to golfers during Masters Week.
Belle Meade Country Club is also the home of the annual Belle Meade Fox Hunt. The hunting season, which runs from November through March, opens with the Blessing of the Hounds. Adventure seekers can follow the hunt horseback riders in tally-ho wagons.
Pine Top Farm Equestrian Center in Thomson hosts regular equestrian events. This 500-acre center includes cross-country courses, hunter/jumper rings and sand dressage arenas. The center also provides stabling for 150 horses.
